A Journey to Resilience

To build resilient lives, the Children & Family Advocacy Center had to first build as an organization: in June of 1989, founders David and Beverly Engle laid claim to 70 acres in Little Flock, AR – the humble beginnings of an organization founded with the intention of serving women and children. The Engle’s saw that trauma took many forms and opened their doors to serve as many as they could. To this day our restorative program continues to work with women who have experienced various forms of trauma. As their time serving others continued, Beverly recognized the need to expand their services to focus on children exposed to abuse and/or neglect: in 2000, she opened a children’s advocacy center on the same land that had already given so much to so many. Now known as the Children & Family Advocacy Center (CFAC), the center continues to offer services for women and children who have experienced trauma, moving forward on a path to offer comprehensive, individualized trauma-informed care to all clients.

It Takes a Village

In those early months of 1989, David and Beverly relied on their village: members of the church assisted in the cleaning of windows, scrubbing floors, and preparing the building for residents. These helpers became the first volunteers, and many still support the organization through monthly giving or other means. David said, “we never had to ask,” and that still rings true today: hundreds of volunteers dedicate time and resources to the CFAC annually.

Our organization is fortunate to have a team of over 35 dedicated and expert staff members who exemplify our core values of grit, growth, excellence, and humble service. Together, we continue to serve those impacted by trauma in the hopes of building resilient families and breaking the cycle of generational abuse.

The Path Forward

The Children & Family Advocacy Center remains steadfast in the mission that began over 35 years ago – to restore the lives of those impacted by trauma. We know that each client is unique and every case is different, and so too our journey is still unfolding. As an organization we look to our past to recognize our present and plan for our future. CFAC will always provide clients a chance to begin their life anew through an environment that offers restorative healing to their mind, body, and soul.
